Kansai Electric Power Concludes Dedicated Carrier Transport Contract for Newly Built LNG-fueled Bulk Carrier. Steadily Promoting 90 LNG/Methanol Ocean-going Vessels by 2030.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. has announced that the Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. and LNG fuel bulk carrier have concluded a basic agreement on a dedicated vessel transportation contract using a vessel and have reached a basic agreement on the construction of the vessel with Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.

The vessel is scheduled to be completed in the latter half of 2026 to play a role in the overseas coal transport fleet following the existing dedicated vessels for the Maizuru Power Station.

LNG emits approximately 25% less carbon dioxide ( CO2 ), 100% less sulfur oxides (SOx), and approximately 85% less nitrogen oxides (NOx) than conventional marine fuel oil. emissions are expected to be reduced, and it has a long track record of being used as marine fuel.

The MOL Group has set a goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050 in the MOL Group Environmental Vision 2.2 . We have already ordered and built LNG-fueled ships such as car carriers, bulk carriers, tankers, ferries, and tugboats, and this vessel is scheduled to be the 17th LNG-fueled ocean-going vessel. We will further expand the introduction of LNG-fueled ships as an initiative that can be taken now, and accelerate the reduction of total GHG emissions.
